Reference 1 Lothersdale, Yorkshire - 5 miles south west of Skipton in the
ancient parish of Carlton
The Muster Roll of 1539 - in times of national stress, all men in
England were liable to be called up to fight any of the King's enemies. Lists,
compiled between 1486 and 1625, still exist. 28 men were called up from
Lothesdale and directed to meet up at Bracewell on 27th and 28th March and on
the 1st of April 1539. One man from Lothesdale was described as "not hable,
so 27 went from Lothesdale to Bracewell. John Tillotson, was both a

8 January 1507 Memorandum of Mainprise in Chancery by Anthony Clifford
of Bolton in Craven, county York, esquire, and William Hilton of London,
gentleman, under pain of £50 each, for John Tyletson of Carleton in Craven
yeoman: and assumption by John under pain of 100 marks that he will be faithful
in his allegiance
